When a cosmetic renovation is enough
- The utilities were replaced or checked recently and are in working order.
- The layout works for you, with no need to move rooms or wet zones.
- You just need to refresh the finish (paint, wallpaper, flooring) without opening up walls.
- The apartment is being prepared for rental or sale on a tight timeline.
When you need a full renovation
- Wiring is aluminum or ungrounded, pipes are metal and over 15–20 years old.
- You are planning a layout change, or moving the wet zones or kitchen.
- Walls and ceilings show leak stains, cracks, or unevenness that cosmetic work cannot fix.
- The apartment is a resale that was last renovated more than 10–15 years ago.
