Plumbing routing is set for decades, and reworking it after finishing costs several times more than doing it right from the start. The routing scheme and pipe material affect water pressure, service life, and leak risk.
Routing schemes
- Series (tee) routing: simpler and cheaper, but pressure drops when several fixtures run at once.
- Manifold (home-run) routing: each fixture gets its own line from a manifold; pressure is more stable and leaks are easier to locate, at the cost of more pipe and higher installation cost.
Pipe materials
- Polypropylene (PPR): a reliable, affordable standard for heating and water supply in private houses.
- PEX-AL-PEX: flexible installation in tight spots, but sensitive to fitting quality.
- Copper: durable and temperature-resistant, at a higher material and installation cost.
Where you cannot cut corners
Pressure-testing the system before closing up walls and floors is mandatory, because it catches leaks before pipes end up under tile or screed. The other point to watch is access to the manifold and shutoff valves: hide them without inspection hatches and any future repair starts with opening up the finish.
We handle plumbing works with system pressure-testing and a hidden-work report, standalone or inside the package of construction works from plot to keys. On the layer that goes in alongside the pipework in wet zones, see Bathroom waterproofing. Describe the property and we will scope the routing and materials.
